The effect of competitive learning strategy in learning some basic football skills for students

Motor learning depends on the effectiveness of the methods used in teaching motor skills. The game of football is characterized by the fact that most of its skills require speed, teamwork and creating a spirit of competition among students during the lesson, in addition to familiarity with the cognitive aspect represented by the law of the game. Therefore, the researcher saw fit to use the competitive learning strategy to instill a spirit of competition among students and achieve better learning, and to address the weakness in learning defensive skills and identify the paragraphs of the law and integrate the cognitive and skill aspects. The study aimed to build a test for cognitive achievement for first-stage students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences - in football in addition to identifying the effect of using the competitive learning strategy. The aim of the research is to: Identify the effect of competitive learning on learning some basic skills for students in football, the difference in the effect of the competitive learning strategy in learning some basic skills for students in football.
The researcher used the experimental design method for the three experimental groups with a pre-test and post-test that is compatible with the nature of the research problem and achieving the desired goals, the research community was determined by the first-stage students in the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Babylon for the academic year (2024-2023), numbering 48 students. The competitive learning strategy and the methods (group learning, pair learning, individual learning) through the exercises used in the educational units increased the motivation of students to perform basic skills in football, which led to the development of some basic skills in football.
