Abstract

The importance of this research, which aims to use the Knatena model to develop creative thinking and learn some basic handball skills for second-year students, stems from the researchers' initial efforts in this field. The research problem arises from the researchers' experience, which has shown that handball has not witnessed significant development in colleges of physical education and sports sciences. This is due to several reasons, including the fact that each sport has its own specific skill characteristics that require a variety of models and methods used in the learning process. Therefore, the researchers decided to develop a teaching methodology using the Knatena model for some basic handball skills for students. This research aims to develop an educational curriculum using the Katina model to foster creative thinking and teach basic handball skills to students. It also seeks to identify the differences between pre- and post-tests for the control and experimental groups in developing creative thinking skills related to key handball skills. The researchers employed an experimental approach using pre- and post-tests. The research population consisted of 90 second-year students from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Maysan University during the 2025-2026 academic year. The most significant findings indicate that the educational curriculum using the Katina model had a positive impact on developing creative thinking and teaching basic handball skills. The experimental group demonstrated superior performance compared to the control group in developing creative thinking and learning basic handball skills. Furthermore, the use of the Katina model contributed to increased student self-confidence through cognitive exploration, ultimately enhancing their creative thinking abilities The research also aims to identify the differences between the pre- and post-tests for the control group in developing creative thinking skills and teaching basic handball skills.
