Abstract

Basketball is a team sport that has begun to develop significantly locally and globally. This requires a good referee capable of handling and interpreting these situations. This requires the use of various sciences and linking them to the game of basketball, including the science of testing and measurement, due to its effective role in evaluating and developing referees. Refereeing is the process of assessing situations and events based on a set of rules that must be relied upon. It is an essential process for ensuring the organization of matches and the effective application of rules to make fair decisions in matches.

The objectives of the research were: To identify the performance level of Iraqi Professional Basketball League referees. To identify the relationship between selective visual attention and periphery of vision and the performance of Iraqi Professional Basketball League referees. To identify the contribution of visual selective attention and peripheral vision to the performance of Iraqi Professional Basketball League referees.

A descriptive survey approach was used to suit the nature of the research. The research sample was the referees of the Iraqi Professional Basketball League for the 2024/2025 season. Tests of visual selective attention and peripheral vision were used using the Rehacom cognitive system. After presenting, analyzing, and discussing the data, a set of conclusions were reached, including that there is a significant relationship between the performance of basketball league referees and visual selective attention and peripheral vision.

There is a contribution of the variables under study (visual selective attention and peripheral vision) to the performance of professional basketball league referees. Visual selective attention and peripheral vision had a direct and clear effect on the performance of Iraqi Professional Basketball League referees.
